Renegade 2010!

My friend and I managed to zip through the Renegade Craft Fair in an hour. The weather today was beautiful and the fair was insanely crowded (good for vendors, vaguely homicidal for me) so I was less than thorough, but I grabbed a lot of cards, coveted a lot of clothing, and saw a lot of handmade "taxidermy."

Very pregnant Circa Ceramics and Foxglove Accessories had side-by-side booths. With due-dates approaching, I was surprised to see either of them, but Nancy of Circa Ceramics was her usual energetic self with her show apron tied around dad-to-be Andy and her latest creation in the "kiln." She and Foxglove's Betsy both have more shows scheduled in the weeks to come and I wouldn't be surprised to see Betsy with a display rack of earrings in the maternity ward. (You guys rock!)

Paul Friedrich drew me a business card, complete with his star, Onion Head Monster. Check this guy out. I think he's fantastic.

Last week I made a treasury of "Hounds and Houndstooth" that included a sweater by Beantown Handmade. Without realizing it I'd met owner Anne and willing companion Mike at the panel on Friday, and today they were at the fair with their wares (which are even cuter in person). My friend and my dogs would never stand for the hats, but we were lucky enough to witness the modeling and purchase of a "blossom dog hat with button strap." Even in the heat Briana and Edie (owner and dog) both loved this lovely cold-weather accessory.

Sparrow Collective and little ocean were stand-outs in the clothes-I-want-to-own-right-now category.

I also want a SuperJumboDeluxe clock. What's the opposite of buyer's remorse? When you don't buy something?

Dogs are Cuter than Cards

The hoodie seems to have made it to K'tantan in one piece. How effing cute is this dog? He has pretty cute parents, too. I've known his mom since our Oberlin College Kosher-Halal coop days (oy!) and we share an ex-boyfriend, but now she's about to get her masters degree in violin performance from Penn State and has probably the best classical musician website I've seen ever, designed by her boyfriend/K'tantan's daddy.
Look at her website. And if you need a violinist (and/or violin teacher...she was music education undergrad and she's good with kids), contact her and give her your money. She deserves it.

Doggy Style

I guess I don't have to retake the photos of the thank you cards from the last post since they sold tonight. Woot. I should be taking pictures of all the other envelopes I have floating around here instead. Shelley (my friend's dog who has been staying with my while my friend is in South America) did not like my last photo shoot because I wasn't paying attention to her. She plopped down her toy and camped out on the lightbox light extension cords and looked sad. Obviously, I had to take her picture:

While I'm now at the point where I can't list any more card sets until I photo more card sets, it's not like I haven't been productive. I'm working on a dog sweater a friend of mine bought for her boyfriend's birthday that she wants shipped off to him by next week, so I've been knitting my brains out. The pattern is supposed to be a hybrid of the Israeli and Japanese flags, except with the Israeli flag's colors reversed so it's not mostly white. Quick terrible photo of my progress taken right now in my lap at my computer:

Shouldn't be much longer now. I got a lot done on the bus ride downtown today, more done while I waited at the DMV, and the rest has been during instant Netflix TV episodes of Weeds, 30 Rock, and Miami Vice. Think any of that gets infused into the knit?

My SARS does not want to get better, but it's giving me an excuse to sit in bed knitting my brother's girlfriend's belated Christmas fingerless mittens while watching instant Netflix and snuggling two dogs. And really, what's better than life with a dog for each hand?
